Auto Insurance Information

What is Auto Insurance?

Auto insurance protects you financially if you have an accident or incident with your vehicles.

Auto insurance provides property, liability and medical coverage:

-        Property coverage pays for damage to or theft of your vehicle.

-        Liability coverage pays for your legal responsibility to others for bodily injury or property damage.

-        Medical coverage pays for injury treatment and rehabilitation.

Auto insurance has several types of coverages.  Indiana and most other states require you to have some of these coverages.  If you’re financing a vehicle, the finance company will most likely require you to carry certain coverage minimums.

Auto insurance policies are for six months or a year.  It is important to know which type of policy you have in order to accurately compare rates with other companies.

What are the Different Types of Coverages on My Auto Insurance Policy?

Bodily Injury Liability-  Pays damages for bodily injury or death resulting from an accident for which you are at fault and provides you with a legal defense.  It has a maximum amount paid per person and per accident.  The Indiana state minimums for this type of coverage is $25,000 per person and $50,000 per accident.  Newby Insurance Agency recommends no less than $100,000 per person and $300,000 per accident.

Property Damage-  Pays for damage to someone else's property resulting from an accident for which you are at fault and provides you with a legal defense.    The Indiana state minimums for this type of coverage is $10,000.  Newby Insurance Agency recommends no less than $100,000.

Uninsured/ Underinsured Motorist Bodily Injury-  In some circumstances, may pay for your injuries caused by an uninsured motorist or, in some states, an unidentified driver. In some cases it also includes coverage for underinsured motorists and at-fault drivers with insufficient insurance to pay your claim.  This coverage is not required by the state, but with more than 30% of drivers out there driving with little or no insurance, Newby Insurance Agency highly recommends this coverage.

Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Property Damage- In some circumstances, may pay for your property damage caused by an uninsured motorist or, in some states, an unidentified driver. In some cases it also includes coverage for underinsured motorists and at-fault drivers with insufficient insurance to pay your claim.  This coverage is not required by the state, but with more than 30% of drivers out there driving with little or no insurance, Newby Insurance Agency highly recommends this coverage.

Comprehensive or Other Than Collision-  Pays for damage to your car from theft, vandalism, flood, fire or other covered perils.  This coverage is often subject to a deductible or out of pocket expense that is listed on your policy.  This coverage is not required by law but is often required by a lender if you have financed the vehicle.

Collision- Pays for damage to an insured vehicle when it hits or is hit by another car or object, or if the car overturns. This coverage is often subject to a deductible or out of pocket expense that is listed on your policy.  This coverage is not required by law but is often required by a lender if you have financed the vehicle.

Towing-  Pays for any towing expenses up to the limit listed on the policy for a vehicle listed with this coverage.  This is an optional coverage.

Rental Reimbursement-  Pays for a rental vehicle while your vehicle is being repaired or replaced if your vehicle is involved in a comprehensive or collision claim.  Coverage is often listed as per day and per claim coverage.  This is an optional coverage.

Why Should I Use an Independent Agent like Newby Insurance Agency when purchasing Auto Insurance?

-        Independent agents represent several insurance companies, not just one.  This allows us the flexibility to offer you several options, find the right coverage and the best pricing.

-        Independent agents represent you the client and not the insurance company.  Agents that represent one company (often referred to as captive agents) work for that company.  Independent agents partner with insurance companies and make sure the client comes first.

-        An independent agent can answer all of your coverage questions, ensure you are receiving all of the discounts available to you and make changes to your policy.  When you call you will speak to an agent who knows you instead of talking to a call center where you get a different person on the phone every time.

-        Independent agents will hold your hand and help you through a claim.  We know a disaster can be inconvenient, frustrating and scary.  We are there every step of the way to make sure things are as smooth as possible.
